Beach description
The bay of Cagliari - poetto, a sandy beach straight from the Caribbean
Poetta is Sardinia's answer to Copacabana: the idyllic beach stretches ten kilometres and is located just five kilometres from the vibrant centre of Cagliari. Here, Mediterranean and urban flair merge amidst turquoise water, sports, staffed beach resorts and quiet corners like Quartu Sant’Elena. The beach is only separated from the city by salt pans full of flamingos. Instead of skyscrapers, Poetto enchants with beautiful beach houses. The authentic beach life can be embraced in the many baretti, small bars, which are casually sprinkled over the beach. Places where gelato and espresso are served during the day give way scenes of dancing and partying at night: the longest and simultaneously most paradisical amusement strip in Sardinia hosts truly unforgettable summer nights on the sand. A good bus system makes sure everyone returns safely to the city well into the early hours. Even in the cooler months, the prettiest city beach on the Med still fascinates. Past the Scirocco towers, visitors can often find plate-sized scallops on the beaches – not to mention the incomparable light that illuminates this season, perfect for enjoying a chilled glass of wine and some typical sea urchin eggs. Poetto – authentic Sardinian lifestyle.
