Biking in Sardinia
Sardinia is perfect for bikers: uncongested country roads, coastal routes and idyllic pastoral tracks inland are great fun – and car drivers are generally very considerate of bikers, too. There are around 1,000 km of uphill, downhill and coastal routes just waiting to be discovered. The best time for bike tours is spring and autumn when it’s not too hot and the roads are not congested. Our tip: guided bike tours are a great way to get to know and love the island even more. In general the following applies: inland routes require a little more endurance and fitness than the flat coastal roads. And the numerous unmarked paths that weave through Sardinia provide an active playground for those who prefer to cycle off the beaten track. Please remember to respect nature and close all gates and fences after you!
Those who prefer to leave their own bike at home can now hire mountain bikes at many beach resorts. If a longer tour is on the cards, however, it’s a good idea to bring gear, brake and tyre replacements with you, since there are few repair shops on the island.
